DESIGN AND ENGINEERING
IACEM has its own in-house design team that can cater for the entire design process for towers, foundations and transmission line hardware for any configuration of transmission line towers, substation structures and sub-conductor arrangement. This includes:
- Sag and Tension Calculation.
- Support Load Calculation, Wind Load Calculations, Loading Trees and Member designs.
- Electrical Clearance drawings and Tower Line Diagrams.
- Tower Development, Detailed Structural Drawings and Fabrication Drawings.
- Structural Analysis of Towers
- Calculation of Foundation Loads
- Foundation Designs – Pad and Chimney, Rock Anchor, Raft and Piled foundations.
Our experience in transmission line tower design includes single, double and quadruple circuit designs, with single or double earthwires, with or without OPGW. Designing is undertaken using modern methods and latest design software is used to ensure that our customer receives only the best products from us.
Some of the softwares that is used by us, during the tower design process includes:
- PLS CADD - Transmission Line design
- TOWER - Tower Analysis and Design for Transmission Lines
- STAAD III - Structural Analysis
- STEELCAD - Development of Erection drawings and Fabrication drawings
- AUTOCAD - Tower Line Diagrams, Hardware Fittings
- DESIGNCAD - Hardware Fittings
Our experience in transmission line hardware design includes fittings for single, double, triple and quadruple bundle conductors. We are also able to engineer our products to suit modern BARE HAND or HOTSTICK live line maintenance. Our 3 bundle strings for the Malaysian market have been certified suitable for such live line techniques by Omaka, a division of Transpower New Zealand.
RETROFITTING OF EXISTING STRUCTURES
Recently, IACEM has also developed another facet of tower design – analysis of existing structures for the purpose of Retrofitting.
Even without existing tower designs, armed with only the construction drawings and line configurations, we are able to analyze any structure to determine its existing capacity and retrofitting to be done in order to upgrade the line capacity.
We are able to undertake Retrofitting designs for situations where:
- The existing conductor is to be replaced with a higher capacity conductor, which may require tower design to be reinforced.
- Additional loads applied to the tower during installation of OPGW/ADSS cables.
- Additional loads due to retrofitting of existing earthwires with OPGW
